The Girl who Silenced the World for Five Minutes

We have already watched the video together in class. Watch it again. What do you think about Severn Suzuki? What would you have done in her place? What did you feel while listening to her delivering this speech at the United Nations Environmental Conference ?

I think Severn Suzuki was VERY brave! I don't think I would have the courage to do that, I mean, I would love to do so, But I am very shy. I think it is right that she silenced the World for five minutes! She is a very brave kid, and I am really happy that she made this although there are not being many changings, she really is like a hero for me!
In her place I don't know what I would have done. I think I'll start being very shy but after a few time I wouldn't be so shy, What I mean is that while time goes by I wouldn't read my paper, i would just say what I feel, and I would be more courages to speak to all those people. I never done that but maybe she is shy also but what I think is that I want to tell this people what I feel, so I would't be shy becuase I really want to tell my fillings about everything, I if I don't say something I would feel incomplete.
I felt that she touched my heart i know I can really understand everything. Like she said, I remember going to places with my family and now I can't go any more, it doesn't matter what place or thing it was, I just want to make a effort to help the enviroment. I don't want my kids to suffer or to be sad for something, I wanna make a change, and for real. I felt she was right in everything she said and yes, she silenced the world for five LONG AND HARD minutes. It is like in the time we are all discusing and arguing about how to change the world something bad is already happening. WE HAVE TO ACT NOW!
Miss Ale I really liked this video, adn it really made me reflect on everything that Severn said.
THANK YOU FOR POSTING IT AGAIN!

Hello miss ale, I am Andy, Today I could´t come to school, because I am sick of something you would prefer not to know... Yesterday we spoke about this video, and I think that "Severn Suzuki" was brave enough to say her speech to adults she didn´t know, and she didn´t even know how they would react...
Oh, if you don´t mind, could you send me a mail (not to the St. Andrew´s one, because I don´t recieve teacher´s mails, but to andyposbe@gmail.com)with the house points I earned yesterday?
Thank´s for posting the video... Oh, I also know how to import videos from youtube!!!(it is quite easy, the embed code is just down there)
See you miss
Ale
OH... I CAN give you a clue of my sicknes, my tummy ackes...

Miss Ale,
I REALLY LOVED THIS VIDEO!
I HAD ELREADY SHOW IT TO EVERY MEMBER OF MY FAMILY BY MAIL! I liked is as much as the other one... where do you get this interesting videos??
It is great how this children are talking like adults, like people who wants to save the world with so much hope. I fisrt thoght that if children did this kind of speeches adults won´t listen to them because most of them just think we are kids. But this show them how much we are interested in owr world and on saving it. Thats why she alays repeate IM JUST A GIRL but I think that is great!
She was very brave, I don´t think I could do that, well I will love to but I would be soo nervous. I really think Severn Suzuki is a hero because she as brave enoght to show the world what she an children thoght. I really think that is unfair because adults cause wars and disasters and we children (althoght the adults also suffer the concecuenses) are the ones who are most affected, because in a future our kids would be like us wondering why does the world is so contaminated and there are lots of concecuenses of that.
I really feel that the world is very distroyed and that if we do no do something sooner it would be worst. That was the message she wanted to deliver for me, that if we cause wars then the world would be ever be saved that way ?? The only think we can do is gather all together and help it without contaminating and hoping everythink would be all right. I hope is does. I think and hope that in those 5 minutes of her lovely speech all this people realize the dameged the world was and what can we all do to help it.
I really remember all this from long ago when you show it to us in class, because now when I opened the blog it apeared that the video wasn´t availaval. But anyway I loved it, and I send it to every person in my contact list for them to see and start changing they way we all are , for making a new and better world and generation. It really made me reflect a lot! Thank you for showing it to as!
She is a great hero!

See you,

Miss Ale,

I think that Severn Suzuki did a really nice and helpful thing for all the world. Her speech infront of the United States was incredible. I showed the video to all my family and they loved it. I, nor my family couldnt believe that such a young girl could go out in front of everybody and give such a long speech. If i were her i would be really but really proud of myself because i know that i did something to help all nature and human beings. Although that problem in some countries didnt really get better but i think if all the United States saw a video like that i would immediately do something about it. All the United States was really quiet and impressed. You could see there faces looking at her really interested. In the moment some people knew what was really going on in the world i hope that they also started thinking about other things to those things. I think that Severn Suzuki is a really brave girl and she has a really good heart and a really big one. She talked alot about things that were happening in the world that most people didnt know. Although the speech was long she had the courage to stand up there do her best and say what other people feel and what she feels for those people. When i saw that video in class i was shocked and immediately wanted to help everything i could that had problems. When i saw it again in my house i was about to cry. I really feel very bad to what people do to other nature and also to people not only to nature. I am sure that those people lost many things that they loved. This video really meant something to me. That if we dont do something know something really big and bad will happen. No matter when and no matter what the only thing that matters is that everybody is safe and that that big thing doesnt happen. I hope that something is done so we can all be happy. I really liked the video and i will do whatever i can to help. Im really glad you posted this comment.

See you tomorrow!!!

myDear Miss Ale: I AM REALLY SHOKED ABOUT THIS VIDEO!!!!!!!
I really can´t belive what this girl,Severn Suzuki, was able to do for us, and for everyone else in the entire world, animals, people, and specially, the enviroment.I never really though that there will be somebody with the courage to go up there, infront of so many important people, and had the courage to say waht she REALLY thought about this problem that we people are doing to the world we live on, the one which we should all of us respect, and fight for it´s right, though I do thingk that the world is more than a circunference whre we live, and that is one of the things I really couldn´t belive that this girl had the courage to do. I think that she was very but very bravebecause of the simple reason that she could stand there, read what she had written some time before, and told the people what she DID really thouught about this problem we aren´t able to see, and if we see it, we don´t react for the help that our planet is needing, I do think in a very simmilar way that Sever thinks, but I would never have what she was able to do, say what she REALLY think and didn´t mind what the people may say about her idea or about her, she just told the truth. If I was in her place I will think very similar, but never think how close situations we live in our every day life to think how baddley this problem is affecting us in a very "secret" way that we do not pay attention to it. I can´t even have the courage now a days to go and say so reflecting words wich I never ever told to anybody else, but just for the help of our future I will do so, I know that she got stuck for only seconds, but in her place, I would get stuck for hours, just for the feeling of thinking that I have to go up there to fight for MY RIGHTS, AND EVERYBODY ELSES RIGHTS.
When I was listennig this video(specially the first time)I just couldn´t belive my eyes and what I wsa listening, I couldn´t find it possible, it was just something I would never belive it would happen, and even more curiose, of a girl who is just some years bigger than me.I am really impressed that somebody took the courage to do what this girl did. I was terribly shocked when this girl was saying something that was really comings out deep inside her heart, she said that at night she will start to cry because she thought that the end of the world was coming and that she will never do a family wich will last forever, and that hert her feelings and her heart SO much that she wanted to cry, but at last she didn´t, although she didn´t cry or got stucked for her thoughts might have been sttoping her of continuing her speech and leaving behind the goal she was about to reach, she kept on with so much faith, that I was terribly beginign to think how badly her thoughts might be harming her deep inside, but she kept on and did a very significant and very but very interesting speech in wich we all learned somthing that we couldn´t belive it was actually happening and that those actions where infront of our eyes but we couldn´t see them, that was something I will never forget in my life, allthe time the girl had to suffer until she wasn´t able any more and her voice changedto a voice wich showed how harmfull it will be if nobody listen to her although she had done such gret job at her speech.I think that this girls faith, confidence, determination, progress, words, feelings showned, her face, and how hard she tried to convince people of the truth that we aren´t able to admit yet, will be kept in the people´s memories until death, and nobody would change that, her words where so real and meaningfull, that I don´t think that anybody else in the world that has heard, see, or any other way, introduced those words in his/her mind, will never forget her, and no matter what the courage that this girls had will be unforgettable. Decause of that I think and I am sure that this girl,Severn Suzuki, should be recognized all over the world and for her acts, be recognised like a HERO who did a change in the world and in the peoples mind...
MISS ALE I LOVED THIS VIDEO!!!!!1
THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR SHOWING THSI TO US!!!!!!

Hello I think this girl, Severn Suzuki was very serious about this speech. She mentioned about adults dont teking care about the enviroment. She is a very intelligent and brave girl, because I think nobody would do that. She really meant it and I think she really deserved more than an aplause. She sid that she was worried about when her sons or grandsons would have to live in a poor enviroment. She talked about how the human race could finish its own living place, not good. And I think she really record that words in to the people that were hearing her. She was right and convincing in everything she said so that was sure that the ones who herd his speech would be really sure about her idea. I think that if she had a little more perseverence she could have achieved her idea. IT WAS A GREAT VIDEO THAT I ENJOYED.

I think he is very brave because she could talk with such segurity infront of many people its amaizing. Too she is very inteligent because she thought that it was unfair so she gather all the people to tell them hers complainin about the extintion of some animals she didn t stay behind like other child that they complain but their only tells it to his family, because his family cant make any change. Also it is unfair because grown ups could enjoy nature knowing that nothing is going to happen, they could see an animal that they had never seen before and see it a again several times again but we can see one time an animal that we had never see before and could the first and last time we saw (not always). Also I know that grown ups want that we can enjoy nature like them but, they need some sources for their job that destroy nature.

bye see you tomorrow, and remeber to make no groups.

Hello Miss Ale
It was a special and unice speach. The girl wa beary shour of her self and shoud that she was in touch with is hapening and had lived what she was saing. And uasent afried of the reaction of the people hearing her she knew she had to be there and had to do that and she had to get into every mind hearing her and make it. It a reflect on what she said, to help her and pay more atencion on wat she was saing . It was aa refletion that all the world had to do in time to change the method recuaierd. She was realy very brave and did do that only for her self she helped lot of other people that she mabe didn´t even now. But she new her gol was that and she was fem on geting to make people see what is hapening. It may have not be easy but she did it and no mater wath hapend she ont change her mind. She osent timid of what she was saing because she had choosed to do that it was her choise and she wished 0to do it and she was firm on doing it, It is incredible how in only a par of minuts she could change lots of things in humanty. She was realy brabe and she saw the future and started, to mek use think how to change our future in gust some decicions. I would not now me future now but I now it would take me a lot of curelle to dow what she said and I now that it would not be the same because I would be a bit nervous and porhaps that would show what I am not refering to. It was incredible to see agirl of our age or some year older telling the what she thought and making use reflect on the deciciouns we are taking. Because porhapes we don´t see now how we are dameging the world but in some years we mae have destroide the beuty of nature. It should she wanted to tell the world what see thought. She is a geat echampel to folow. I would love to help in the why she did some day.
SHE IS A GRATE HERO TO FOLOW AND REMEMBER! She shows how you me be little or old and you me change the peoples thoughts. It also shose how why may dow something littele and change someting big.
The speach made me think how with a littele hand you help the sosity.
Bye

I think that Severn Suzuki is a great person. She is brave and determined. Not afraid to tell everyone what she feels. She is totally right in what she said. I would have said the things in other ways but get to the same point. She is right. I sometimes tell my mom: "Mom, when I grow up, I will go to Africa and feed all the people I can, give them love shelter..." I know it is very random but I still think about it. While she was talking I felt similarity... I think the same way as her (somehow)...

Miss Ale
I came back from mar del plata and I want to catch up a little bit on the blog. Its very late but I wanted to do at least one blogging before I go to sleep. Well, Severn Suzuki was very, very brave. I mean, how can a persongo there and speak in front of the very most importaint persons in the world. I mean, the persons who decide the things in the world, and inform the world about everything. She is a very corageous girl to go there and speak alone to the world. I mean, I would be very scared ! It is so wonderfull that a person could silence the world ! I felt that it was so wonderfull and i got really shoked when I saw the video. I just couldnt belive it ! It so brave of a person. I felt a lot of things. But I can not describe them, they were like WOWW ! look what that girl did ! When I saw it I said to myself what a life the girl must have in the future, if she is between 13 and 15 now, and she thinks like this now, about saving the world, the animals, the children, the air, etc., imagine how she will think when shes an adult !! Its so amazing !
Well see you tommorrow

Hi there!
This video impressed me a lot!!! I didn´t see it in class. Did you see it the Friday before the spring break??? Well it doesn´t matter because know I could see it and it made me reflect a lot. Severn Suzuki is the bravest child I´ve ever seen. She was filled with courage and she wanted the people to understand her message. She didn´t care what they would say about her, she cared about what they would do after hearing her speech. Would people reflect about it or just forget about? I think here is the answer to that question: Everybody should reflect about it and change their ways of acting. I couldn´t have done what she did. It is very true she silenced the world for five minutes. While I was listening to her there was a lot of silence and I only paid attention to her. I think about it and I say, this girl is almost my age and she has scilenced the world. I want a good future for me and my children. I couldn´t have been in her place. What she said shocked me a lot, but I loved it. I really liked what she said about that adults tell us not to behave badly, to hurt others or do what´s not supposed to, but how do they want us to learn that if THEY don´t even care about it? Adults are an example for us and I think that some don´t realise about it, they don´t realise they are giving us an example when they go into wars or when they shout in the middle of the streets. The worst part of it is that they do it for nonsense. There are many people that say that nothing is going to happen, just to calm us and theirselves down, but they know that´s not true and maybe if they really thought about it they could make a change. Adults always tell us not to take things out of their place if we don´t know how to put them back. Well that´s exactly what´s happening with the world. We are distroing everything and we don´t know how to repare it. People should think before they act the way they do. Severn Suzuki is a hero I would love to write about. When I finish with the comment I will show this video to my parents. I think they will really like it. I don´t want my kids to suffer for my fault, because I contaminated the air or things like that. Instead of go on destroing things why don´t we try to repare the damage we did? WE HAVE TO CHANGE OUR WAYS AND QUICKLY!!! People go thinking around the world: Why do I have to care if I will not be here when all this happens? Well people who think that don´t have the slightest idea of what they are saying because they are already in this moment and if they weren´t they are also being very cruel.
What about next generations? Don´t they care about they´re children and grandchildren and the ones that will come after? I´ll say it a million times if it is necessary WE HAVE TO CHANGE OUR WAYS. I hope you liked my comment.
See you,
Barbie M

Dear Miss Ale:

That girl is amazing. I WOULD NEVER DO THAT!! I think that she has organiced that speach for a couple of months or even a year!!
The girl left like 20 people that were in the room silent, shoked!!
If I was her I couldn't say a word I will be VERY nervous!!
That amazing girl only said what she wanted and left the room. I think that she was right because if nobedy does that things now, they will never be done!
The example she did of the butterflies was a very good example because the butterflies are beautirful and me I also want my own children to see it, also all children to see them..
If not every single animal would be extint??
FOR ME WE HAVE TO TAKE CEAR OF THINGS AND START TO ACT!
I THINK THAT THE GIRL DISERVES AN AWARD!!
See you

Hi miss ale This video I had seen it like...... one month ago with santos duhau and my mother in my other house
When I saw it I was really shocked and impressed and then I started thinking what will happen if we all follow rules or obey law, it will be an other completly good and strange (for us) world. And I started thinking what if.... I was there and in that place and It appered in my head lots of things. An example is: all the Sundays I come to my house here in capital from my country house and I saw the highway Illia and I went through two shanty towns were all the houses almost reach to the Highway.
IT IS INCREDIBLE and the government doesnt do nothing to stop it. But back to the speech that girl was very brave!! And talked all fact things

bye bye

Severn Suzuki was very brave to tell people from almost all the world what she felt from the world she was living in. I would love to be in her place but I would be "scared" thinking about what I maybe can do to the world saying what she said. It was impresive when people were so silent and looking at her like saying "this girl is right". And it is true, she is right because maybe the world in the future will not be as nice as it is now or like it was before and all the people in that time will like to live in the world we are living now or that people lived. Her speach was really good because it was not boring but it really made you reflect in the things that you will do and see what you did wrong before. When she mentioned the poor child in the street I thought that if that child would receive what he wanted he would make the world a little bit better than it is now. And we that have everything we still do not think what good we can do with what we have. What also shoked me was when she said that she found a fish with cancer one day when she was fishing with her dad. When we saw it for the first time in class all 6B was really silent looking at the video and when we finished watching it everybody asked questions and made reflections and comments. I loved what she said when she finished that we need to do what we say we will do. Maybe in the future she will become a hero like lots of the ones we are looking information for, for our google docs. Maybe if this message passes to almost everyone in the world we can make a change so in the future the world will be a better place or does not get worse.
Thank you for posting it in the blog so if maybe someone was absent can see it, and if we did not have any time in class to tell what we think about the video.
See you tomorrow,
Valerie P.
