More Reading Comprehension Strategies

For Thursday and Friday depending which form you are in, you have to read "What the Cat told Me" by Diana Wyne Jones. It's long and not so easy. Do you remember some strategies I posted here?

Well, I'm adding one more to help you understand the story a bit better. Hope they are useful to you and that you apply them.

Determine Importance of Ideas

Good readers look for things that help them identify big ideas and why they are important.

The Power of Words

Reading different blogs from other schools in different countries, I found this video. As we very well mentioned in our writing lessons that one of the main goals in writing is to create a picture in the reader's mind, the way in which we say things and how we say them can cause a great impact on others. One more challenge

One more challenge on expanding sentences and realising how the telling sentences change into showing ones.

Click on this site on expanding sentences. Go clicking until you have at least 10 lines long as text. Look for some showing phrases, how did they become showing, what else was added to the words so that they are expanded?

Leave a good comment on your observations.

Figurative Language

Similes, metaphors and personifications are some examples of figurative language which liven up your writing and create a picture in the reader's mind. This video will help you remember them so that you can start using these figures of speech in your future pieces of writing. Hope you enjoy it!

This is an online video game from the BBC where you have to answer questions related to English, Science and Math. As you answer the questions correctly, a little “questionaut” in a balloon gets to continue on his journey.

If....

So that you are encouraged to speak in Engllish at all times, you will be given a card every time you speak in Spanish.

• For every card you get at the end of the lesson, you will have to leave TWO extra comments in the blog of 10 lines long (each one) for the following day.




• If you happen to get 10 cards in all by the end of the week, you will draw a paper out from a tin and you will have to prepare the activity on the paper for the following Monday, (such as writing and reciting a poem, preparing an oral presentation on a fantasy story, thinking and writing 10 suggestions for posts for the blog, writing a summary on a fantasy story, writing a reflection, and so on)

Dear Students:

Congratulations to all of you! It is a very difficult task to choose the main characters, especially because you are all so talented. I really loved seeing you giving your best in the try-outs. However, you must not forget that main characters are only a part of the concert. I am looking forward to work with all Y6 in yout scenes and songs.
