This is the quotation of the week-
What do you think it means?
A poem begins in delight and ends in wisdom".

What do you think of Francis Bacon's quote on books?

"Some books are to be tasted, others to be swallowed, and some few to be chewed and digested: that is, some books are to be read only in parts, others to be read, but not curiously, and some few to be read wholly, and with diligence and attention."

Telling vs Showing

We have been working on turning telling sentences into showing sentences.

Word Choice can make a difference in your writing. Showing is more powerful than telling. Words that speak to the senses build images. Words that describe sounds, smells, and tastes evoke memories. Flat, dull, boring, or vivid, resonant, and lucid-- how will it be? Where will we find those few well-chosen words to dazzle the mind's eye?

Now I challenge you to turn these telling sentences into a good showing one. You can do the work on your wiki page, on Etherpad sending the code for me to read it, by mail or a a lined sheet of paper.

Then leave a comment telling me that you have done it.

Just click on the link below, follow instructions, have fun and get housepoints!

Practise spelling

This is a spelling site where you have the option to: Teach Me, Test Me, or Play A Game.

The "Teach Me" option allows you to reflect on each word of their spelling list while the list and sentence are being read aloud.

The "Test Me" option allows you to take a test from the spelling list at any time. This test option gives you the ability to hear just the word or have a sentence read.

The "Play A Game" option allows you to play a variety of learning games with any spelling list.

Two important words to learning are: imagination and knowlwdge.
Albert Einstein said:

"Imagination is more important than knowledge itself"

Why do you think he felt that way? Do you agree? Why or why not?
